On April 22, 2022, the Mount Royal Faculty Association (MRFA) sent out a “preface” to its Spring Retreat program.
On April 25, 2022, the MRFA Executive Board’s Diversity and Equity Officer stated that “Folk have worked hard to make [the Retreat] a more inclusive, consent-focused event”.
On April 27, 2022, Frances Widdowson arrived at the Retreat to participate in a panel that she had organized on open enquiry and cooperative learning. The presentation she prepared is provided below.
Shortly after Widdowson arrived, she was told by the MRFA President that she could not sit on the panel because only MRFA members could attend the Retreat. Widdowson had requested to participate in February 2022, but she was told on March 25, 2022 that the Executive Board “did not entertain a motion to issue such an invitation”. She then applied for “Associate Membership”, but the MRFA Executive Board deferred a discussion of her application until the meeting after the Retreat had taken place.
Although Widdowson was not able to participate in person because the vote on her Associate Membership request was deferred, one of the panel members was able to show a video recording of her presentation (posted below).
