This quote from George Orwell gets to the heart of the matter. We must be able to state what we believe to be true, and this starts with stating facts. If this is prevented, it is an indication that totalitarian tendencies are beginning to assert themselves.
In the #TwoPlusTwoMakeFourTour, Widdowson is drawing attention to the opposition to facts that is emerging. Two of these claims “There are only two sexes” and “The remains of 215 children have not been confirmed at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School” are being suppressed through social ostracism, the destruction of careers, Human Rights Tribunal penalties, and perhaps soon there will even be jail time. There are also three other claims in which Widdowson is interested – “the residential schools were not genocidal”, “indigenous science is not science”, and “trans rights are not human rights” – but these concern the validity of arguments, not the statement of facts as is seen in the first two claims.
With respect to the claim “there are only two sexes”, this has negatively impacted Widdowson’s career as a professor. This is because Widdowson making this claim was argued by Mary-Lee Mulholland, the chair of sociology and anthropology, to result in trans colleagues “having their identity and humanity called into question”, resulting in there being “friction” in the workplace. “Friction” with colleagues was a reason given by Arbitrator David Phillip Jones for Widdowson not being reinstated.

This has resulted in Widdowson seeing the need for a “tour” at universities where such facts can be stated. One of the stops on this tour was the March 7, 2026, when Widdowson attended the “Reality Based Women Unite” conference in Montreal.

The conference stressed the need for sex-based rights, especially in female sports and prisons. One of the most interesting presentations was made by Genevieve Gluck, who discussed pro-pedophile activism and the World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH). One of the entities examined was the “Eunuch Archives”.
The following day, a protest was held to draw attention to the problem of males identifiying as women being housed in female prisons and jails. Widdowson chose the sign “SEX NOT GENDER”.

The reason for this choice is that “sex” is the scientific term that should be used. “Gender” is a word without a clear definition, and this enables references to it to confuse people into asserting that there are more than two sexes.
This discussion has been a major point of contention on Widdowson’s Facebook page. The most prolific proponent of the view that there are more than two sexes is James Parker, a professor at the University of Calgary.

On March 8, Frances Widdowson held a Spectrum Street Epistemology session at McGill University on the claim “there are only two sexes”.
