On Thursday, September 25 – one day before Frances Widdowson arrived at The University of Winnipeg to do Spectrum Street Epistemology – Dr. Pavlina Radia, the Provost and Vice-President, Academic – sent out an email to the Chairs of all departments. Attached to this email was a “Communications Toolkit” that includes “messaging and supports for students, faculty, and staff”.
On the first page of the “Communications Tookit”, it is stated that “The University will not block Widdowson or anyone who accompanies her from being on the campus grounds”, as “universities must remain places where diverse viewpoints can be expressed.
When Widdowson had been on campus for about an hour, she was handed a trespass notice.
In addition to the administration sending out an email about Widdowson’s visit, the University of Winnipeg Faculty Association also became involved. On September 26, 2025, Peter J. Miller sent out an email to all union members denouncing widdowson. In this email, Miller asserted that “the genocide perpetrated against indigenous peoples by the government of Canada is a fact”. He also implied that Widdowson was a liar by referring to “the lies of residential school denialists on our campus and elsewhere.
